Gitga'at First Nation
Approximately 130 members of the Gitga’at First Nation (GFN) reside in the lands and waters around Txalgiuw (Hartley Bay) in Northern BC. However, they have hundreds of other members around the province. Community is very important to members of the GFN, and communication helps bring them together, even when they’re apart.
The Situation
The Gitga'at First Nation (GFN) wanted to increase engagement with members through a digital medium with a professional look that could reach people on all devices, from mobile to desktop. The Nation previously produced a community newsletter called Amhaw, but it had not been delivered since 2019; GFN wanted us to bring it back into circulation.
The Process
Working with GFN members in various departments, the Good Creative Team helped source content and stories and get updates from the Nation. Members were directly involved in writing and contributing content. Good Creative transformed this copy, giving it a cohesive tone and voice for its member audience.
We also created a new branded design for the newsletter. The goal was to make it professional while feeling familiar. The newsletter was delivered both by email and in print form, distributed to members, and included on the Nation's website.
The Results
The improved newsletter design, combined with the unified tone of voice, made the content more accessible to a higher number of members. This cohesiveness brought members up to speed on important matters in their local area, helping them feel connected to their community.
